Colosseum, Italy

The Colosseum in Italy is an elliiptical amphitheatre in the center of the city or Rome, Italy, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire. The Colosseum is one of the greatest works of Roman architecture, that was built on the order of the emperor Vespasian in the honour of the grandiosity of his empire, it was inaugurated by his son, Titus. The construction was completed in 80 AD. The arena was then known as the "Flavian Amphitheatre", after the family name of the emperors who built it. The arena was used for gladiatorial combats, mock sea battles, animal hunts, and executions. It was restored in about 230 AD by Emperor Alexander Severus. The Colosseum was damaged by fire and earthquake several times, but it was continually restored until the end of the 5th century.
