The Acropolis of Athens is a temple located on the top of a steep rock outcrop in the middle
of the ancient city in Athens, Greece.
The rock rises about 70 meters and levels to a flat top 300 meters long by
150 meters wide.
It was always a sacred place for ancient Athenians going back to Mycenaean times.
They worshiped their gods in temples there conducted their festivals, and they
fortified themselves on it whenever the enemies managed to reach
the city of Athens.
The Acropolis of Athens, was built to radiate power and protection for its citizens, the
temple was made out of lime stone, and built in the 5th century BC.
Today the Acropolis of Athens is recognised by
UNESCO as the definitive monument of World Heritage.
